How to Reprogram unconscious beliefs

This exercise focuses on using affirmations as a tool to change your beliefs and pinpoint any unresolved conflicts you may have.

If a positive attitude is everything, why does it matter what the traumas of the past were? Why do we need to remember that we were abused, bullied, and hurt? Isn’t that being stuck in the past?

We need to acknowledge where we come from to fully move on. You must make peace with your past and accept it as a part of you. I was extremely confident I had no lingering resentment towards my past. I could talk about it openly, I did not cry anymore, I even forgave the ones that hurt me.

Life was good, but I was not. I had a lot of defense mechanisms that I had put in place to cope. These beliefs were still pulling strings in my life without me realizing it.

I am proposing to you an exercise that has a double purpose:

  1. It will help you to create your personalized affirmations
  2. It will shed light on the areas you need to work on

Positive affirmations have been trending for a long time and for good reason. If you know that thought is energy, you know the power of the word. Therefore, your internal dialogue is the most important conversation you will ever have.

Unfortunately, our internal dialogue tends to be ruthless. We don’t tend to show ourselves the same kindness and patience we have for everyone else.

There’s an abundance of positive affirmations online but in my experience, I have observed it’s a lot more powerful to write your own affirmations and create your own recording.

What can be more powerful than listening to yourself telling you who you are?

Let’s get to work! In this easy exercise, you will need the following:

  • Notepad and pen
  • Quiet space where to write
  • Recorder in your phone
  • Meditation music (optional)

Process

  • Set your purpose, is there a specific area of your life that you want to focus on? (abundance, relationships, personality)
  • Start free writing affirmations
  • Choose one central thought that you will repeat throughout your recording. (e.g., Every day I feel better)
  • Audit your affirmations, are they truly positive? if you say “I am a fighter” what are you affirming? You are saying you expect to be fighting for what you want.
  • Re-write affirmations to expand positive meaning. “I am a fighter” becomes “I achieve my goals easily.”
  • Set your favorite background music and record yourself reading your affirmations. Make sure your tone conveys calm, happiness or excitement depending on what the message is.
  • Listen to your affirmations daily!

Pay attention to how you feel when you listen to your affirmations; you may feel that some don’t ring true. If you say things come to you easily but feel a nudge of “we know that’s not true!” that is an area for you to explore. Some deep-rooted belief is at odds with that affirmation and is likely linked to unresolved situations.

Are you excited to explore who you are?

Love,

Celia
